Sometimes when the radio is playing while we're rummaging through rubbish bins for our breakfast, a really catchy song comes on that makes us temporarily forget the thunderous rumblings in our stomachs. This happened with Jam Signal's new single, Stuck In My Head. Jam Signal is a Zimbabwean band of 3, making what they call Afropop, we can hear the jazz in there though.
Comrades, as the 2 Broke Twimbos, there are 2 never-ending quests we are on. The first is the search to discover a way to eat at least one meal a day. The second, far easier quest is to find Zimbabwean music videos we can watch without shame. Songstress and fashionista Varaidzo has just put out her latest effort for her current Russo produced single Chii Chaunoda? If your Shona is rusty, that is translated to "What do you want?", a phrase Dan & Phil hear often while thrusting their begging bowls in the faces of Harare's well-to-do.
The posts have been slow we know, but that's because we'd been busy with intense choreography for our acceptance speech dance at the ZIMA Awards for Best Online Media. More on that later, but in the meantime let's catch up on the musics. Mr Boomslang himself returns with a love song about not having enough money to keep his girl happy, or something like that. We can relate.
Believe it or not the 2 Broke Twimbos are now the Award Winning 2 Broke Twimbos!!! Last night, despite all the odds we managed to walk away with the award for Online Media at prestigious ZIMA ceremony.
Nigerian born Micky Jaggaz links up with Family Tree producer and artist Gemini Major on his new dancehall release Vodka and Panties.
In between the disbursement of awards and fabric to the winners our good friends over at NafunaTV were doing actual work and covered the NAMA Awards while we were running from the security at the event.
Comrades, The Zimbabwe Music Awards recently announced the nominees for this year’s ZIMA’s at a press conference held at the Rainbow Towers in Harare. To everyone’s surprise and possible dismay of others it has come to our attention that the 2 Broke Zimbos have been nominated, We are not sure if these are a cheap copycat outfit or it is indeed us and the judges just didn’t like the look of our original name. In any event we are truly grateful for the recognition and the love from the ZIMA’s.
Fellow comrades and non-receivers of vehicular gifts, the 2 Broke Twimbos are back once again to knock down global ignorance with the sledgehammer of podcasting! This week, the pair discuss the terrible tragedy of the Kariba Ferry, the ongoing InDrive wars between Harare City Council and e-hailing service users, Thomas Mapfumo beefing with his nephew, why we’re still going to have to go through the humiliation ritual of applying for visas, and how to tell if this was written by AI or not. Enjoy!
