Dan & Phil Sneak Into The 2014 Zim Hip Hop Awards
Dan never passes up the chance to enjoy free drinks. Even if they might be spiked
On a rainy December night Dan & I rustled up the little cents we had and made our way to the Zimbabwean Hip Hop Awards. After sweet talking several combi hwindis and doing things we would rather not repeat, we arrived at the Wing Wah International Restaurant , Casino, Conference Centre and whatever else the owners decided the venue would be . The multipurpose building along Glenara Road was to host the 2014 edition of the Zim Hip Hop Awards.
At first we were not sure about the location, what do Zimbabwean Hip Hop and Chinese restaurants with a confusing business model have in common besides an inability to understand what their purveyors are saying?
Upon arriving at the venue we were actually surprised and disappointed to see that Jin the Chinese battle rapper was not making a surprise appearance. In his place was a ragtag group of artists we hardly knew about screaming into the mic as if they were auditioning for the next Nightmare on Elm Street installation.
With the exception of Cal Vin the awards were a disappointment and a perfect recipe for chaos, confusion and the type of ratchet tomfoolery we thrive on. Check out our video review of the event below.
If that was not enough nonsense for you. Check out this video of what happened when a male model decided to fight a rapper who wants you to show him love. Pause.
The end of another week means the end of all your problems! For now, at least, so we celebrate with a brand new episode of the only podcast to be 100% tariff-free in all countries! Dan & Phil talk YN’s, Zim Hip-Hop and Zimdancehall in the context of international exposure and collaborations, conspiracy theories about tariffs and all-female space crews, and even get some time in for full-on nerdy chats about Direwolves and Marvel. Enjoy!
